Tip #1: Removing items from their packaging is a quick and effective way to save space. Putting them in clearly labeled containers not only looks nice but it also seals the product giving them a longer shelf life. Pro tip: if you want to save the nutritional facts, expiration date, etc. cut them out and put them in a clear sleeve on the back of the container.

Tip #2: Swapping out all your mismatched hangers. You wouldn’t believe the difference this makes in the look of your closet. You can get these felt hangers in bulk on Amazon, Costco, & Bed Bath & Beyond. I switched to these felt hangers from…

Tip #2: Swapping out all your mismatched hangers. You wouldn’t believe the difference this makes in the look of your closet. You can get these felt hangers in bulk on Amazon, Costco, & Bed Bath & Beyond. I switched to these felt hangers from the plastic ones about 5 years ago and could never go back!

Tip #3: Label, label, label! We live by the motto “A place for everything, everything in it’s place.” Adding labels ensures items will make it back to their place. For certain areas storage needs are ever changing. Using bin clips like the one above…

Tip #3: Label, label, label! We live by the motto “A place for everything, everything in it’s place.” Adding labels ensures items will make it back to their place. For certain areas storage needs are ever changing. Using bin clips like the one above allow you to easily switch out the insert as the contents of the container change. This style can be found at The Container Store and comes in a variety of colors.

TRAVEL GUIDE | CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA

This past weekend we were in Virginia visiting one of my boyfriends best friends and his family. This was my third time in Charlottesville and I love it a little more every time. As we boarded our plane we recognized a few faces from our last flight to Virginia. There is something that always feels familiar about this trip, like coming home. Virginia has a way of welcoming even the newest face with open arms.

Usually before I go on a trip I spend hours researching restaurants, things to do & see (often based on the best interior design). Not for this trip though, luckily for us we have amazing hosts to show us around their city. Our friends never fail to have an itinerary for the weekend, highlighting all their favorite spots. Given their track record of amazing stays, we trust them to do so! I love this city and the people so I wanted to share some of the many reasons I love going back. If you ever find yourself in Charlottesville, VA or are looking for an out-of-the-box vacation destination, here is my city guide of all the best things to do, eat and see!

In a very close second place, King Family Winery never disappoints. Grab a picnic blanket and a spread of cheese and meats and enjoy an afternoon taking in the mountain scene

Unique to King Family there is a polo ground and stable situated on the property. If you schedule your trip during a Polo match you can watch the game from your picnic set up.

HIS CLOSET MAKEOVER

I would have to say organizing closets is my favorite of all the spaces I do. For many of us, getting dressed in the morning is one of the first steps in our day (after coffee, of course). Having a clean orderly closet sets the mood for the day. If you think of it that way, an often forgotten space becomes actually very important. However the benefits don’t stop in the AM. Having an organized closet with systems means everything has its place. When a client is putting away laundry there is a clear place for every item, making the process easier. Labels, baskets and a little coaching to change habits set our clients up for success. Which means being able to maintain a neat space long after we are gone. Scroll all the way to the bottom to check out the pretty dramatic before shot.

Working with the existing built-ins the client was without drawers for socks and underwear. We used these bins from the Container Store to store their undergarments. Because this is something that will be used daily we put them in an easily accessible spot. The items that are used less often were reserved for the highest and lowest shelves.

These felt hangers are a game changer (I wish I had invented them). Replacing mismatched hangers makes a big difference aesthetically. They are also more narrow than the traditional plastic hangers giving you more space.

The cutest assistant there ever was. Though more for emotional support I admit, he kept running off with shoes in mouth.

END OF SUMMER | GAME NIGHT

Board games, good friends, deep belly laughs, food & drink – that’s what Game Night is all about! There’s nothing quite like the feeling of getting friends and family together for a night of fun. It’s a bit of work but it’s a labor of love and an awarding one at that! I get a thrill from the process of hosting, which leads me to this blog post! I wanted to share a few of my hosting how-to’s, tips, and game night ideas. It can be as simple or as over the top as you want it. I promise you no matter how big or small your get together the memories will last. So grab a board game and call your friends over!

My older sister was coming in town for the weekend so I decided this was the perfect time to host another game night. It just so happened two of my dear friends from Vegas would also be in town, so I began planning. I always start with fresh flowers and candles as the first layer to the set up.

Getting set up - I like to mix fruits, nuts, meats and cheeses on my boards. I get my inspiration from Pinterest or The Project Platter (their charcuterie boards are a work of art)! I have collected my serving dishes over time but I’m always checkin…

The island always becomes the place that people gather around when they first arrive, so I made this the spot for all the fromage and charcuterie boards. Be sure to keep in mind any food restrictions and allergies your guests may have. If you have a guest with diet restrictions make a board that all can enjoy, but tailors to their needs (e.i. meat free).

For us, game night wouldn’t be complete without the proper libations. If your guests ask what they can bring, don’t be shy to suggest their favorite bottle of wine! This way they will be sure to have exactly what they want to drink for the evening.
